Sabbir Yusuf, the bright name of hockey in Bangladesh is no more. This 66-year-old former star breathed his last yesterday morning while undergoing treatment in Singapore. From 1964 he started playing in the then East Pakistan team.
After independence, he played in the Bangladesh national team until 1977. He rose from Faridpur and reached the peak of success. He has received many recognitions including National Sports Awards. Served in various positions of Bangladesh Hockey Federation, was the current Vice President of Hockey Federation.
Hockey Federation expressed deep grief over Sabbir Yusuf’s death. Bashir Ahmed, one of Bangladesh’s hockey leaders, remembered, ‘Sabbir was a talented fullback. His departure is a big void for hockey in Bangladesh.
