The game of hockey was never in the list of choices of Akimullah Isuk. But father Anwar Isuk Abdullah wanted his son to be a hockey player. The Malaysian forward picked up the hockey stick to fulfill his father’s wish.
When Barisal Metro were destined for a draw against Dhaka Walton at the Maulana Bhasani Stadium this evening, Akimullah was on fire. Barisaler secured the win with a great goal with two minutes left in the match.
Barisal defeated Dhaka Walton 2-1 in the first match of the franchise hockey league. Apart from Akimullah, Deen Islam scored the other goal. Rakibul Hasan scored Dhaka’s goal.
Akimullah is only 19 years old. Malaysia national team has not yet got a chance. But in the meantime, he has played in age groups. Malaysia won gold in Argentina in 2018 Youth Olympics. Akimullah was an important player of that team.
Played in Olympic qualifiers in 2020. Then he played in the Junior World Cup in 2021. Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament is going on in Malaysia. Not getting a chance there, he came to play in Dhaka.
In the first match, young Akimullah cut all the light. Man of the match in his first match. After being the man of the match, Akimullah was saying, ‘I came to play for the first time in Dhaka, I became the best player on the first day. I am very happy. But what I like most is that I have contributed to winning the team. I want to play well in the next matches as well.
