Women’s Ice Hockey Drops Hockey East Opener Against UConn

Box Score ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women’s ice hockey team began their 2021-22 Hockey East play with a 1-0 loss against the Huskies of UConn.

For UConn, they scored the lone goal of the game at 12:51 into the second period. Vikki Harkness netted her fifth goal of the season to give the Huskies the 1-0 lead. Natalie Snodgrass (3) and Taylor Wabick (4) picked up the assists.

Samantha Carpentier-Yelle picked up the victory for UConn, shutting out the Black Bears with 17 saves.

Jorden Mattison, who registered a big break away save in the first period of the contest, held the Huskies to their lowest goal total in a game so far this season. She stopped 33 of 34 shots she faced.

Maine stays in Alfond Arena for their Homecoming matchup against Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 16. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 P.M.

Per University of Maine system guidance, UMaine Athletics will require all guests attending home hockey events to provide full proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, which must be administered within the previous 72 hours. Patrons must have a mask in place covering their nose and mouth prior to entry to the venues. Doors will open for the public 90 minutes prior to puck drop.
