GPA-5 of twin sisters in women's hockey

Bangladesh Sports Education Center (BKSP) is the center of sports in Bangladesh. Although sports are the priority, studies are also compulsory in this institution. This time five students of BKSP got GPA-five in SSC examination. Two of the five are from the women’s hockey team. Two twin sisters Hemadri Barua Sukh and Niladri Barua Neel.

BKSP started its journey with football in 1986. While men’s hockey has been around since the birth of BKSP, women’s hockey has started four years back. Niladri-Himadri two sisters are first batch students of BKSP women’s team. In 2021, they were admitted to women’s hockey in the seventh grade.

Many students of BKSP do not concentrate on studying after practicing for two hours in the morning and afternoon. But the exception among them are two twin sisters. Hemadri is quite satisfied to get the result after a lot of trouble, ‘Actually, I got this result after studying a lot. Our school sir-madams were sincere as well as the sports masters. Before the exam, we brought books to the practice field and read it. Besides playing, this female goalkeeper of BKSP thinks that it is possible to do well in studies. Here is hostel life. Have many friends. Chatter wastes a lot of time in laughter. We also focus on studies. So I got good results.’

Twins share many likes and dislikes. The same happened in Niladri and Himadri. Both sisters are enrolled in hockey. Both are science students and have a GPA of five. Niladri scored above 80 in all subjects but Himadri scored less than 80 in English. So he decided to challenge this issue, ‘English test also did well. I will apply for recheck. I hope it will also get five.

In this context, Niladri said that the sports, studies and results of the two sisters are the same, ‘Actually, we have a lot in common mentally. Both loved to play as children. Both of us used to play cricket during school holidays when we were kids. I came to BKSP to take admission in cricket. Raju sir (BKSP’s hockey coach) saw us and brought us to hockey.’

Two sisters with stick-gloves on the hockey turf of BKSP shortly after the result was declared today. The two sisters are in the national team camp for the AHF U-21 Women’s tournament in Singapore. BKSP women’s team coach Zahid Hossain Raju is also coaching the under-21 team of BKSP. His comments about the two twin sisters, ‘They are children of an educated Buddhist family in Chittagong. Their father is an educated and sportsman from Chittagong. Because of his inspiration, the girls were interested in cricket, I brought them to hockey after seeing their height. Doing well in hockey. As they are good in studies, their future is good in hockey.’

The women’s hockey team began its journey in the seventies, but then it stopped for a long time. Bangladesh participated in a HF women’s hockey tournament in Singapore in 2019. After that for a long time the women’s program was not done by the hockey federation. However, the women’s team also participated in a five-a-side tournament in Oman last year. These two sisters were in the camp of that tournament. He is in the camp of the U-21 team this time as well.

The aim of the two sisters to improve their studies now is to get a place in the U-21 team in Singapore, ‘Last time we could not go to Oman in the Five A side. This time the goal will be to get a place in the main team. Both sisters want to continue their studies with sports equally, ‘Since I came to BKSP with the dream of becoming a player, playing in the national team is the main goal. Besides this, I want to get GPA five in HSC as well. This is the idea for now. Then I will think about the next goal.

275 students participated in the SSC exam from Bangladesh Sports Education Institute this time. Out of this 265 passed and 10 failed. Out of 275 candidates, 162 candidates from Savar BKSP. Four of them got GPA five. All four are from science department. Apart from the twin sisters, the two other GPA five achievers are cricketer Jannat Imantag and Taekwondo’s Ashiq PK. Also got a GPA five from regional BKSP.

Brigadier General Syed Md Motaher Hossain, Director General of Bangladesh Sports Education Institute, said about the academic results of the students, ‘We want to develop well-educated athletes. Along with play, education is very much needed. There is no substitute for education to become a complete athlete. Our education rate in Dhaka Board this time is 83.92 and overall 96.36. There will be efforts to improve it in the future.’

Many have passed the SSC in age-wise women and men football teams. Among the women’s football team, Oishi has passed the Dhaka board with 4.44 points. Umelha Marma got 4.00. Sultana, Ruma, Pooja, Kanan also passed SSC. Five students have also cleared the SSC at BAFF’s Elite Academy at Kamalapur Stadium. Out of five people, three are from BKSP. Raju and Ashiq passed out from school in Tangail with GPA (4).

Apart from BKSP and the top sport of the country, football, cricket, many other sports have participated in the examination. All that information, however, is not available in the respective federations. Many of the children of former athletes and coaches were candidates this time. Some of them passed with a GPA of five. Mohammad Salauddin is the top local coach of the country. His son Sandid was now a registered player in the Premier Division Cricket League. Apart from playing, he excels in studies.
